Editorial Policy: How We Build Our Restaurant Guide
We want you to know exactly what on each page is verified data, what is estimated, and how to get something corrected.
1. Where listings come from
Restaurant names, locations, addresses, phone numbers, cuisines, facilities and — where published — opening hours come from OpenStreetMap, the open map database maintained by thousands of local contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. For many venues we also use details from their public business listing — opening hours, price range, services and amenities — and one publicly shared photo. We prioritise venues that people in Ireland actively search for, using aggregated search-demand data. Our last full refresh was on 1 October 2026.
2. What is estimated — and clearly labelled
- Typical menus. Menus on restaurant pages show dishes typical of the venue's cuisine with approximate prices. They help you decide what kind of food to expect, but they are not the restaurant's official menu. Each menu page says so.
- Busy times. "Estimated busy times" are modelled from the venue's opening hours, type of cuisine and normal Irish dining patterns. They are not live visitor data.
- Unconfirmed hours. When no opening hours are published we show typical hours for similar venues, marked as unconfirmed, and recommend phoning ahead.
3. Reviews
Reviews submitted on IE Rest are written by our visitors and moderated before publication to remove spam, abuse and conflicts of interest. We don't write reviews ourselves and we don't accept payment for reviews. Star ratings from IE Rest visitors are only shown when real, published visitor reviews exist.
Where we show a Google rating, it is the venue's public rating and review count at the time of our last refresh, clearly attributed. We also show a small selection of recent public reviews from Google and other platforms. They are reproduced unedited, with the original author name, rating, approximate date and source, and are clearly separated from reviews written on IE Rest. The "what reviewers mention" tags are our own summary of the topics that come up most in those reviews. If you are the author of a review and want it removed, contact us.
4. Writing and automation
Descriptions on listing pages are generated from each venue's own data points — its location, nearest landmarks and stations, cuisine, facilities and opening pattern — and reviewed in templates by our team. We do this to give consistent, factual summaries for thousands of venues; we avoid claims we can't support.
5. Photos
Where available we show images published by the venue for sharing, openly licensed photos (credited on our image credits page) or representative photos of the cuisine. Owners can send us their own photos or ask us to remove an image.
6. Advertising
Ads are always labelled as "Advertisement" and never influence which restaurants we list or how they are ranked.
7. Corrections
Spotted something wrong? Use our correction form. We aim to review requests within five working days, and owners can request removal of a listing.
