Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data IE Rest (ie-rest.com and its restaurant sub-domains) processes, why, and your rights under the GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Controller
IE Rest, contactable at [email protected], is the controller for personal data processed on this website.
2. Data we process
- Contact and suggestion forms: your name, email address and message, plus a one-way hashed identifier of your IP address used to prevent spam. Legal basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(a) and (f) GDPR).
- Reviews: the display name, email (never published), rating and review text you submit. Legal basis: consent.
- Public reviews from other platforms: restaurant pages show a selection of reviews that their authors published publicly on Google and similar platforms, with the display name, rating and approximate date as originally published. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in informing diners (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you wrote one of these reviews and want it removed from IE Rest, email us and we will delete it.
- Location for "near me": only if you allow it in your browser. Coordinates are used once to calculate distances and are not stored.
- Server logs: our host keeps standard technical logs (IP address, time, requested page) for security for a limited period.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: only if you accept them — see our cookie policy.
3. Retention
Messages are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Reviews stay online until you ask us to remove them. Rate-limiting records are deleted after 24 hours.
4. Recipients and third parties
Maps are displayed using Google Maps and OpenStreetMap tiles, and weather information comes from Open-Meteo; these providers receive your IP address when your browser loads their content. If you consent, Google Analytics and Google AdSense may process data as described in Google's privacy policy. Some of these providers may transfer data outside the EEA under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
5. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected]. You can also lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
6. Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
